Mindfulness & Progress – 8th of February

Morning Reflections: The Perils of Oversleeping

Some mornings start smoothly, and others… not so much. Today was one of those chaotic starts. I forgot to set my alarm, waking up in a panic at 4:45 PM—just in time to avoid being late for work. It’s a reminder that while our body clocks are amazing, relying on them alone isn’t always the best strategy.

To avoid this happening again, I’m considering setting up Tasker, an automation app that can schedule alarms automatically. A little tech-savvy solution might just save me from future close calls.

Health & Fitness: Adjusting to the Unexpected

Being sick has made workouts tricky. Still coughing up green goo (gross, I know), I skipped the gym but committed to 20 minutes on the elliptical after work. I almost went for a run since the weather was overcast and windy, but I decided to take it easy. The key is consistency—even if that means adapting to my body’s limits.

Mindfulness & Habit Tracking

I’ve been focusing on tracking my habits more accurately, and today, I had an unexpected realization: I was miscalculating my calorie intake. Turns out my canned oysters had double the servings I thought, meaning my calorie tracking was off. A small mistake, but one that reinforced the importance of paying attention to details.

To keep better track of my progress, I’ve started using OneNote to log my daily activities. I created a February folder where I record my workouts, reading, and other habits. This helps me stay accountable and ensures that I capture progress accurately—whether it’s a gym session, a run, or simply 15 minutes of reading.

Reading & Learning: Lessons in Resilience

Speaking of reading, I’ve been diving into a book about resilience and overcoming challenges. One story that stood out was about a man born without arms or legs who went on to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and become a champion wrestler. His story was a powerful reminder that limitations are often just obstacles waiting to be conquered.

This also reignited my interest in a book I’ve been meaning to read for over a decade“The Hero with a Thousand Faces” by Joseph Campbell. I first heard about it through John Romaniello, a fitness author who incorporated Campbell’s Hero’s Journey concept into workout plans. It’s fascinating how storytelling structures influence not just movies and books but also personal growth.

End-of-Day Reflection & Moving Forward

Despite the rushed start to the day, I still managed to exercise, read, and track my progress. The only thing I missed was playing guitar, but I didn’t want to wake my housemate. There’s always tomorrow.

One thing I need to tackle next: automating my alarms so I don’t keep repeating the same mistake. That’s a project for another day, but for now, I’ll take the win of staying on track with my goals.

Final Thoughts

No day is perfect, but progress beats perfection every time. So, if you’re working towards something—whether it’s fitness, learning, or just better habits—keep at it.

You’re enough, you’ve got this. Go kick some ass, go cross some goals.
