Mindfulness & Progress – 14th of February

Balancing Fitness, Family, and Future Plans

Started the day early at 8:22 AM, sitting in my car outside the gym, planning out my day. The main priority was getting to Brisbane, but I didn’t want to deal with peak-hour traffic, so I used the time to train legs first, then head into town before making the drive.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean much to me since I’m focused on my own goals, but it was cool to realize that both of my sisters enjoy reading, which I never knew before. I picked up some books to take to my older sister and made sure to pack my Nintendo Switch and laptop to keep myself occupied while away from home.

Workout Highlights & Progress

  • 🏋️ Leg Day Session
    • 💪 Leg Press: Worked up to 90 kg but kept it controlled to build back strength.
    • 🏋️ Romanian Deadlifts: Focused on form and grip strength instead of max weight.
    • 🦵 Single-Leg Press: Legs felt shaky after RDLs, but I pushed through.
    • 🏃 Treadmill Run: Started at 10 km/h, dropped to 8.5 km/h, and ran 1 km before finishing with a walk.

My headphones died mid-workout, forcing me to switch to my backup earbuds, which never seem to fit right. Super frustrating, but at least I had a backup plan.

Family Time & Costco Haul

After training, I drove to Brisbane, stopped at my family home to pick up books, and dropped off some 3D-printed jigs for an old boss. Then, I surprised my nieces and nephews by showing up just before school pickup.

In the evening, we went to Costco, where I spent $660 on:

  • 🥩 Tomahawk steaks & Wagyu
  • 🥓 4-5 kg of jerky
  • 🍕 Giant slices of pizza (600 calories each!)
  • 🛒 Seasonings, snacks, and sauces

After Costco, we stayed up playing Minecraft as a family, which was a fun way to wind down.

Other Wins for the Day

  • Gave my little brother my Xbox Elite controller—he was stoked!
  • Called some friends while driving down to Brisbane—nice catch-up time.
  • Tracked my calories (even if I underestimated that Costco pizza).
  • Reassessed my 3D printing idea—leaning towards not buying one since I don’t plan to stay in Australia long-term.

Lessons & Self-Reflection

What did I learn today?

  • 🎮 Minecraft is still ridiculously fun—especially when played with family.
  • 📚 Surprised to learn both my sisters love reading—guess it runs in the family.
  • 🏃 I need to be more consistent with fiber intake—let’s just say skipping it wasn’t a good time…

What scared me today?

🎸 The idea of skipping guitar for a day—I almost brought it but didn’t want to carry extra stuff.

Looking Ahead

  • 📌 Drive back home tomorrow before I lose momentum on my habits.
  • 📌 Catch up on reading since I skipped today.
  • 📌 Stick to my training plan—next session is already mapped out.
  • 📌 Make final decisions about travel and work for the year.

Final Thoughts

Even though I didn’t do much website work today, it was a great day—solid gym session, fun family time, and progress in my long-term plans.

“You’re enough. You’ve got this. Go kick some ass and crush those goals!”
